G-STRINGS

“Unbelievable, that acute classical symphony orchestra members develop aggressivity fired with enthusiasm, wilder with such an ease on E-Violins and Violas in all styles. Tango Nuevo, Jazz, Pop, Rock; their arrangements never lose a sense of humor. The Band discovers Miles Davis and Mother´s Finest in a mixture from tender melodiousness and Tango-Poesie, hard string attacks and effects, without taking their original´s soul. The audience cheers, and the devil-strings beam. Pure musical joy” is one echo to a G-Strings’ concert.

G-STRINGS

The “Paradisebirds” have performed at the Montreaux Jazz Festival, the Ravinia Festival, the Shanghai Music Festival, Westport/Technics Jazzport Hamburg and at the festival“Jazz in Hamburg”. They have also appeared at EXPO 2000, the Schleswig Holstein Musikfestival, the Rheingau Musikfestival, the cross-over festival “Strings of Fire” at the Gewandhaus Leipzig and the Euregio festival.

The Quintet’s first studio album was released in 1996. It centred on a string portrait of the “King of Tango” Astor Piazzolla. According to one magazine this was “a Piazzolla at least as real as its original.” Their second CD appeared in March 2000, a mixture of jazz/rock/pop classics and new arrangements. On this disc musical milestones erected by The Dregs, Mother’s Finest, Steely Dan, Blood Sweat & Tears, The Singers Unlimited, George Gershwin and Duke Ellington are re-explored along with hits by Incognito and Jamiroquai. (CD Made on Strings / EMI 7243 5 21581) According to the press “this CD is addictive”. The Hamburger Abendblatt was fascinated by the “crazy and exciting arrangements” and the well known Swiss music Journal Jazz’n’more described how the “Drive, the perfect timing” made the “sparkling musical firework of this cheekily arranged classic breathless”.
